We wrote elsewhere that the LG HDTV is one of the many types of HDTV televisions you will need to consider buying when you compare HDTV televisions. LG Electronics has been making televisions sets for years now. LG TV is synonymous with quality and it is no surprise that they have done as well as they have in the consumer television market. One of the things that drive people away from buying HDTV’s is their price tag. Some people walk into the store and look at the prices on the high end HDTV’s and think “gosh I can’t afford a HDTV for 5 grand!” Most HDTV companies make models for every price range and LG is no different. In the middle range of price and performance is the LG 50PY3DF Plasma TV.
As we discussed, the LG 50PY3DF Plasma TV is marketed to those discerning consumers who require a television that provides good performance at a bargain price (relatively). In tests done by independent organizations and consumer product review companies, this LG Plasma TV offering received middle of the road scores on performance in areas as color quality, brightness and clarity. In other areas like skin tones, color balance and dark scene performance, the LG 50PY3DF received above average or superior scores to its nearest competitors.
With 3 HDMI ports, this LG tv does not have the maximum number of HDMI ports that some of the other HDTV televisions on the market have (many of the other HDTV’s have four HDMI ports). But what this particular plasma tv has that some of them may not have is a USB port. This USB port allows the television to read data cards and flash drives and display photos that may be stored in them. With the remote control, you can move the photos through like it was a slide show.
One of the thing that reviewers come back to with this particular LG tv is the on screen menu that allows the viewer to adjust many of the settings for the tv. The color temperature menu is graphically arresting in that it has blue, green and red color temperature controls in the color temperature part of the television menu. Under this sub-menu, there are some particular color presets that you can adjust your television to. These color presets are called Standard, Mild and Dynamic and what they do is establish preset settings in the areas of brightness, vividness and contrast. But you do not have to rely on the tv presets established by the factory, you can actually set your own presets if you would like. By using the remote you can change and modify all of the settings to suit your individual viewing taste. But here is where it gets interesting. You can change the settings in one of two ways; either with the remote control (like the rest of the tv watching world) or with this particular LG tv, you can actually use the touchpad on the bottom right part of the television.
Another feature that sets the LG 50PY3DF Plasma TV apart from much of the HD ready world is the fact that the stock, factory speakers that are built into the television are actually of very good quality. With most HD TV televisions you will need to hook them up to your home theater sound system in order to get superior sound. And while this still remains a viable choice, it is not necessarily required for this particular LG tv.
LG tv provides a two year warranty for parts and labor. This is one of the most attractive features of the LG tv as it is more generous than its competitors by being twice as long as their competing warranty plans.
The LG 50PY3DF Plasma TV provides decent video performance while allowing you to enjoy your shows and movies while listening to the audio through the built in speakers. Perhaps best of all (for many people) is the fact that the warranty in the LG tv is longer than other HDTV manufacturers.
